Books, Articles, and Other Resources:
My favorite part about teaching at Johnson is: The environment.
When I’m not teaching, I love to: Draw comics and play acoustic music.
In my classes, students can expect: To feel great about accomplishing big goals.
My best advice to a new student in my program is: Work hard! Creative media, digital art, (whatever you want to call it) is tough stuff. It is multi-disciplinary. Itβs drawing and painting in a variety of mediums, itβs calligraphy and typography, itβs digital art skills, itβs book design, itβs creative writing, itβs dramatic writing, itβs cinematography, itβs color theory, itβs narrative. Frankly, in todayβs market itβs also web design, entrepreneurship, advertising, public speaking, performance, and business management among other things.
Because of my influence, I most want my students to become: Fantastic, interesting people who understand that ideas can only change the world if they are delivered in an engaging way.
The myth-busting truth about my discipline I most want people to understand is: Talent has almost nothing to do with oneβs ability to succeed in the arts. It is FAR more about discipline.
A quote that influences how I live is: βInspiration is for amateursβ¦the rest of us just show up and get to work.β – Chuck Close
